West Bromwich U-23s win Premier League Cup

West Bromwich Albion have won the 2022 Premier League Cup by defeating Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-4 after an exhilarating 12 yard shoot-out at The Hawthorns. It was an intense battle, with both teams showing what they have. Nobody was leaving without a fight.

Quevin Castro scored first for West Brom in under 10 minutes, which was set up lovely by Tom Fellows steaming down the right flank to find Castro who had a nice acrobatic celebration to show to the 7730 fans in attendance. Im sure even the Wolves fans were impressed.

Lee Harkin put the visiting fans at ease with his header set up wonderfully by Hugo Bueno to make the game level.

Chem Campbell was active trying to find opportunities to score, but Tedd Cann was up for the test and smothered them all.

The match went to extra time as the match was still levelled after 90 mins. Hugo Bueno opened the scoring in the extended minutes with a terrific goal by slicing through West Brom’s defence to demonstrate some effective stepovers before slotting the ball in the bottom right giving the keeper no chance.

The equaliser came shortly after from Mo Faal who’s goal looked like it was inspired by his teammates Castro celebration earlier in the game. Dexter Lembikisa looked like he could have stole the game down the stretch of the extra but Ted Cann was there to deny and send the game to penalties.

It was a very tense shoot-out, Cann and Andreas Sondergaard saved four shots between them earlier on in the penalties. It was do or die time when Christian Marques stepped up (4-4). He ended up missing the vital shot which left it open for Ethan Ingram to bring it home for the young baggies, which he did, showing that he has ice in his veins closing the game out.
