U18 Premier League Cup Gameweek 1 Roundup

The U18 Premier League Cup got underway for its fifth year over the weekend. All 28 teams began their campaigns providing a wide variety of results including wins for all three U18 Professional Development League sides. In this article, we will take you through all the results from Gameweek One.

Group A:
West Ham United 4-2 Fulham-
West Ham continued their free-scoring form to win a thrilling encounter with Fulham. Goals from Oliver Gofford and Terrell Works were not enough for the Cottagers as a goal from Gideon Kadua and a hat-trick for Callum Marshall took the Hammers to the top of the group.

Sunderland 1-0 Nottingham Forest- Sunderland continued their 100% win record for this season with a narrow victory over Nottingham Forest. Tom Watson scored a 90th-minute winner to snatch the points for the Black Cats.

Group B:

Everton 1-0 Derby County- Derby’s goalless and winless run continued as they fell to a narrow defeat at Everton. Substitute Jack Tierney scored a stoppage winner to get the Toffees their first win of the season.

Southampton 3-0 Chelsea- Reigning champions Chelsea fell to a convincing defeat at Southampton. A goal from Sonnie Davis and a brace from Jimmy Morgan claimed the top spot for the Saints.

Group C:

Newcastle United 4-2 Arsenal- Newcastle came from behind to beat Arsenal and go top of the group. Lucas Cooper opened the scoring for the Toon before Kristopher Quesada-Thorn and Kaleel Green turned it around for the Gunners. A second-half brace from Lewis Miley and a goal from Ben Parkinson won it for Newcastle.

Aston Villa 2-0 Manchester United- Aston Villa got the better of Manchester United in a tight encounter. Goals from Omari Kellyman and Kobei Moore either side of the break earned the points for the Villains.

Group D:

Crystal Palace 3-0 Brighton and Hove Albion- Crystal Palace moved to top of the group with a dominant victory over Brighton. A brace from Adler Nascimento and a goal from Vonnte Williams earned the points for Palace.

Leeds United 1-2 Sheffield United- Sheffield United earned a narrow victory over Leeds in the Yorkshire derby. A George Dickinson penalty and a goal from Billy Blacker either side of Lucas Thomas’ equaliser earned the win for the Blades.

Group E:

Manchester City 2-0 Blackburn Rovers- Blackburn’s winless start to the season continued as they were defeated by 10-man Manchester City. Kian Noble’s first-half red card failed to affect City as goals from Nico O’Reilly and Alfie Harrison earned them the top spot.

Norwich City 2-1 Leicester City- Norwich came from behind to beat Leicester to extend the Foxes’ winless start to the season. Amani Richards’ penalty put Leicester ahead but an Alex Matos penalty and a goal from Finley Welch won it for Norwich.

Group F:

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-3 Charlton Athletic- Professional Development LeagueCharlton earned a surprise victory over an in-form Wolves side. Goals from Ralfi Hand, Henry Rylah and Patrick Casey cancelled out Owen Jeys-Farmer’s penalty and earn the points for the Addicks.

Liverpool 1-3 Tottenham Hotspurs- Tottenham overcame Liverpool in a tight encounter to move joint top of the group. A hattrick from Jaden Williams was enough to claim victory for Spurs despite a late consolation goal from Louie Koumas.

Group G:

Middlesbrough 0-3 West Bromwich Albion- West Brom ran out comfortable winners over Middlesbrough to go top of Group G. Goals from Fenton Heard, Tobias Hurlock and Layton Love earned the win for the Baggies.

Ipswich Town 2-1 Stoke City- Ipswich claimed a narrow victory over Stoke to continue their strong start to the season. Nathan Lowe’s goal was not enough for Stoke as goals from Jack Manly and Ollie Davis won it for the Tractor Boys.

It is a return to league actions for all clubs over the next few weeks before round two of group stage fixtures of the U18 Premier League Cup takes place on the 8th of October.
