International Roundup: How the Young Lions fared

Omari Forson celebrating goal

With the international break drawing to a close last night it’s time to reflect on how the England youth sides fared and how some of the U18 Premier League North top talents performed.

England U19s

Simon Rusk got his first international break as England U19s manager off to the perfect start with three wins from three in qualifying.

The defending European Championships winners progressed to the next stage of qualifying for Euro 2023 with their victories over Montenegro, Georgia and Denmark.

The Young Lions started with a 2-0 victory over Montenegro courtesy of second-half goals from Luke Chambers and Sonny Perkins.

They followed that up by smashing Georgia 6-0 with Perkins bagging a hat-trick, Oakley Cannonier scoring a brace and a goal from Omari Forson.

Rusk’s side secured a 100% record with a 4-2 win over Denmark. Perkins and Forson were on the scoresheet again along with George Hall and Darko Gyabi.

The three victories secure the Young Lions their place in the elite stage of qualifying, progressing as top of the group.

West Ham talent Perkins was the standout performer over the international break with his five goals and thoroughly impressive displays.

England U18s

Neil Ryan’s England U18s won the Costa Calida Supercup after winning all three of their games. The Young Lions beat the Netherlands, the Faroe Islands and Belgium to win the four-team mini-tournament in Pinatar.

There were plenty of top talents from the U18 Premier League North that featured over the three games.

Another British player that impressed is talented Liverpool winger Ben Doak as he was called up to Scotland U21 aged just 16.

He marked his debut at this international level with a goal three minutes after coming off the bench in a friendly victory against Northern Ireland.

He again featured off the bench in their second friendly against Northern Ireland and impressed with his pace and ability on the ball.
