Match Preview: West Ham United U18 vs West Bromwich Albion U18

West ham U18 celebrating goal

West Ham United U18s will welcome West Brom U18s at Little Heath Sports Ground kicking off at 12 pm on Saturday 1st October 2022.

Kevin Keen’s young Irons will be looking to continue their 100% record in the U18 Premier League South season against a West Brom U18s side who have had a very mixed start to their season.

Last season West Ham U18s comfortably won both fixtures against their counterparts 5 – 2 and 6 – 0 respectively. The visitors have shown spells of good football in the five matches played including a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough in the U18 Premier League Cup, but they’re yet to find their groove. They will be hoping to not make it a third defeat in a row this Saturday.

West Brom U18s will be looking forward to a new spark under newly instated Coach, Leigh Downing. As the previous coach Peter Gilbert went on to be appointed Aston Villa U21s coach back in August. Leigh Downing will be looking for a winning start as his new side languish 8th on the standings with 4 points accumulated so far.

Two players from West Ham U18s represented their countries during the recent international window. Summer signing Patrick Kelly (scoring a brace) and red-hot striker Callum Marshall both played a part for Northern Ireland U19s as they were held to a 2 – 2 draw against Slovenia in their latest 2022-23 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifier.

Both players will be looking to help West Ham power their way to a fifth consecutive win against Leigh Downing’s side.

The key players to look out for this weekend

Joint league top scorer Callum Marshall, alongside Lewis Orford and Gideon Kodua have been crucial for their side this season and will look to continue their fine form this Saturday.

On the other hand, West Brom’s left winger Layton Love will be important for them if they stand any chance of ending West Ham U18s 100% winning record.
