U18 Premier League North: Matchday 6 Preview

The U18 Premier League returns this weekend following the conclusion of the international break. There is a full round of fixtures to look forward to including three teams looking to maintain their unbeaten start. Here’s a game-by-game preview of this weekend’s action.

Derby County vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolves have got their season off to the perfect start, taking maximum points from their opening three matches. Derby, on the other hand, have done quite the opposite. The Rams have lost all three of their U18 Premier League matches and are yet to score a goal. Wolves striker Leon Chiwome has had a bright start to the season with two goals so far. The young striker has impressed this season and will be hoping to continue his form this weekend.

Everton vs Manchester City

Everton, like Derby, are yet to win a game this season. Man City are unbeaten in the league with two wins and a draw from their opening three games. City had five players travel with the England U18s over the international break which is great experience for them. One of which was Joel Ndala who has had a brilliant start to the season with five goals in all competitions including a last-minute winner in the UEFA Youth League.

Manchester United vs Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn suffered a poor start to the season but they picked up their first and only win just before the international break. Man United started strong with a win in their first game but have failed to pick up any points since. As a result of this, both are languishing down the bottom of the table and will be in desperate need of a win. Talented United winger Sam Mather went away with the England U19s over the international break and is set to be key to United’s attack again this weekend.

Newcastle United vs Stoke City

Newcastle have had a mixed start to the season with a win, a draw and a loss in their first three matches. Stoke have had a strong start with three wins from four in the U18 Premier League. Stoke forward Nathan Lowe has started the season strong with 3 goals so far in all competitions. The young striker signed his first professional contract with the Potters this week and would love to celebrate that with a goal

Leeds United vs Sunderland

Leeds have suffered an indifferent start to the season with two wins and two losses in their first four matches. Sunderland currently sit at the top of the table after a sensational start boasting a 100% record from their first four games. Sunderland have been clinical in front of goal with 14 goals in all competitions so far. Four of these have been scored by Tom Watson who also has two assists to his name. Max McFadden has two goals and two assists for Leeds so far so he will likely be a thorn in the side of Sunderland.

Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest

Like Leeds, Liverpool have won two and lost two in the league this season. Forest have failed to win since the opening day and currently sit on four points after drawing with Middlesbrough before the international break. Liverpool winger Ben Doak has caught the eye of many this season and has just returned from playing for Scotland U21s aged just 16. He marked his international debut at that level with a goal, taking him to four goals and two assists for club and country this season.
