Manchester United hit Blackburn Rovers for six

man utd u18 celebrate goal

Manni Norkett bagged a brace as Manchester United thrashed Blackburn Rovers 6-1 in the U18 Premier League North.

James Nolan, Adam Berry, Ethan Williams and Max Oyedele were also on the scoresheet as United put the woes of recent weeks aside and eased their way to a dominant victory.

Junior Ngangou scored a late consolation for Blackburn but their poor start to the season continues as they fell to a fourth defeat of the campaign.

United took the lead after three minutes when Oyedele played a delightful lobbed ball into the box to Sam Mather who cut it back first time for Nolan to tap home.

The boost of an early goal allowed the Red Devils to dictate the flow of the game, shifting the ball through the Rovers press and forcing the visitors into a heavily counter-based style of play.

Blackburn thought they had equalised after 10 minutes when Dominik Biniek got in behind and smashed the ball home at the second attempt but the winger was caught offside.

United doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Kobbie Mainoo’s strike from distance smashed off the post and Norkett was the quickest to react firing into the roof of the net on the rebound.

Blackburn started the second half well but were unable to put any real pressure on Eric Hanbury’s goal and they were made to pay in the 60th minute when United extended their lead.

Norkett grabbed his second of the game, benefitting from some pinball in the box before turning and smashing his shot into the top corner for his fourth goal of the season.

The Red Devils were gifted a fourth three minutes later when Blackburn keeper William Blease came out to clear the ball but only found the feet of Berry who rolled the ball into the empty net.

It was five shortly after when Williams drove into the penalty area and slotted the ball past Blease to round off a prolific ten minutes for United.

Blackburn pulled a goal back in the 82nd minute when Ngangou fired in a stunning strike from outside the box.

United wrapped up the match five minutes later when Blackburn gave the ball away in a bad area allowing Oyedele to break into the box and score his side’s sixth.

It was a vastly improved United performance compared to previous weeks with Norkett and Williams impressing in particular.
