Can Charnwood College Riders go back to back?

After last season’s dramatic finale, Charnwood College will be hoping to win the EABL in successive years as the season kick starts tomorrow.

The Riders finished with a near formidable 13-1 record in the regular season last time out, the Riders will be looking to go one better this year and finish unbeaten.

The reigning champions will start their title defence on the 5th October in a tricky road game against the Derby Trailblazers and follow up with a home game against Newcastle Eagles Academy and away to Sheffield College respectfully.

Charnwood’s form in the season openers hasn’t quite gone to plan as they exited the Kitking trophy in the group stages after losing all three games in the tournament last month against Hemel Storm, Loughborough Riders, and Nottingham Hoods who all play in the NBL Division 1

Since winning the EABL in March at the National basketball performance centre in Manchester, Charnwood has lost some key personnel heading into this new season. Finals MVP Victor Ndoukou committed to North Dakota college back in May.

However, there have been some noticeable performers who have caught the eye as the season begins. Guard Lewis Gleason shot the ball with precision in the group stage of the Kitking trophy and finished with 15 points on a 54% field goal percentage in the process. Another notable name to look out for is 6ft5 versatile forward Iziah Alexander Price who is efficient from the floor and a great rebounder. Last time out, Price nearly had a double-double with 8 points and 9 rebounds against NBL opposition in Hemel Storm.

With a tough run in the Kitking trophy and the loss of crucial pieces, can the current Charnwood College Riders make a return to Manchester and do a repeat?
