In the 33rd minute, a Declan Frith flick found the feet of Wilson who drove the ball into the back of the net for Villa, giving him his first goal in the competition, and showing the composure of a striker well beyond his years.

Substitute Sean Stewart equalised for the canaries in emphatic fashion after 79 minutes as his free kick from distance looped over everyone in the box and dropped into the top left-hand corner.

Just two minutes later Villa found themselves back in front as Sebastian Revan stood the ball up at the back post for Tommi O’Reilly to force into the Norwich goal for 2-1.

Tony Springett was inches from a second Norwich equaliser in the 89th minute as he couldn’t quite connect with a drilled ball across goal from the left-hand side.

Norwich full-back Alex Matos was shown a red card after 24 minutes by referee Sam Mulhall following a late challenge on Revan, leaving the Canaries with ten men.

Aston Villa came into the game off the back of a big win against Derby where they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Chisom Afoka and Frith. Whereas Norwich suffered a 4-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest last time out.

Frith provided an impressive performance not only producing an assist but creating opportunities for himself and his teammates. Testing the Norwich defenders on numerous occasions.

O’Reilly was another key performer for the home side as he kept Villa ticking in the second half and found the goal to put his side back in front.

Next up for Aston Villa is Blackburn Rovers in the Premier League Cup on the 19th of November, the Villa will be wanting to build on this positive performance.

Norwich on the other hand next face Stoke City at home on the 6th of January where they will be looking to return to good form in PL2 Division 2.
