Chelsea appoints Paul Winstanley as Todd Boehly Beefs up Future Transfer Plans

Chelsea have appointed Paul Winstanley as Director of Global Talent and Transfers.

The 43-year-old joins the club from Brighton & Hove Albion where, he spent eight years. He was previously, Talent Identification Manager. Then he got promoted as head of recruitment at the south coast club.

He has been hugely responsible for Brighton’s amazing recruitment since 2014. This has resulted in Brighton clinching promotion to the Premier League in 2017, and establishing themselves as a stable and well-run football club.

Winstanley becomes the sixth staff recruitment from Brighton to join the Blues. Since the appointment of Graham Potter in early September. He follows first-team coaches Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg and Bruno Saltor, goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts and recruitment analyst Kyle Macaulay. 

He is also the third appointment of director level Chelsea have announced after Laurence Stewart and Joe Shields.

The new recruit said on the club website, “I’m thrilled to be joining Chelsea and to continue working with Graham Potter and his team. There is a real sense of excitement and momentum around the new ownership and this project. I’m looking forward to working with such an outstanding group of colleagues as the club moves into a new era”. 

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly and co-controlling owner Behdad Eghbali said: “Paul is going to be a great addition to Chelsea. He’s highly respected and is a key senior addition as we continue to build a world-class sporting team with a huge depth of talent, ambition and commitment who will work closely with us to drive Chelsea forward. Paul shares our philosophy and will fit seamlessly into the organisation”.
