EABL Top players of the week: GW5

Gameweek 5 of the EABL season tipped off on Wednesday with eight teams battling it out. Here’s a look at some of the best-performing players from the game day.

Louie Tucker, SGS Academy

SGS College continued their unbreakable unbeaten streak, moving to 4-0 for the season against the Newcastle Eagles academy in an 86-95 victory.  The closely fought win was again dominated by the same individual who took the league by storm this year, Louie Tucker. The 6ft guard racked up his highest tally of the year with an outstanding 39 points to help his team keep that lucrative unbeaten start. Tucker is now averaging 31.7 points per game and looks to be the clear stand-out player in the league so far.

Joe Sheeran, Newcastle Eagles Academy

Despite the close defeat to SGS College, The Newcastle Eagles will hope it’s a step in the right direction after their humiliating 121-44 loss to Myerscough College in week 5 of EABL fixtures. However, the major positive to come out of the game on Wednesday was the standout performance of 6ft6 wing Joe Sheeran. The forward scored a season-high 33 points to cap off a string of good performances in recent weeks, where he has scored more than 10 points in all but one game this season. Sheeran will be hoping his continued run of form can help spring the Eagles up the Northern Conference in the coming fixtures.

Denilson Cashili, Myerscough Basketball Academy

Myerscough College kept up with their impressive start to the season with a 75-54 victory over Sheffield College to take their record to 4-1 for the year. The standout player for Myerscough and the player who makes the final spot for this week’s top 3 is Denilson Cashili. The 6ft2 guard has struggled to make an impact on the team since scoring 22 in Myerscough’s last defeat against title rivals SGS College. However, the guard scored another crucial 22 points to ensure they finished comfortable winners in week 6 against Sheffield. After this week’s results, Myerscough sit at joint top of the Northern Conference which is a testament to the sheer number of players who can step up any given day to perform when called upon. With the top seed deadlocked, who will come out on top?
