Paul VI crowned Hoophall International Champions

Paul VI were crowned champions of the Hoophall International as they beat Mater Dei, ending a dominant weekend in London for the Panthers.

Paul VI 75 – 47 Mater Dei

Mater Dei progressed by defeating Pace Academy 69-66 in the semi-final. Zack Davidson was impressive for the Monarchs dropping 21 points and 8 rebounds.

Paul VI beat Christ the King comfortably by 25 points, with the game ending 56-31. DeShawn Harris-Smith led in points for PVI with eight points as well as grabbing seven boards.

Che Brogan showed character throughout, taking several charges at the defensive end and being effective on offense, ending the game with 11 points.

Scotty Belnap hit a three at the end of the first quarter to bring Mater Dei within a point their opposition as the quarter ended 11-10 to PVI.

Isaiah Abraham threw down several ferocious dunks in transition in what was an exciting second quarter, ending the half at 27-22 to the Panthers.

PVI ended a high scoring third quarter with a lead of 15 points and the score being 51-36.

Benjamin Hammond’s athleticism was on show in the fourth quarter with some outstanding layups and displaying his explosive acceleration in transition. He finished the game on 14 points and 4 assists.

The Panthers began to run away with the game as the final quarter went on. Despite them only having a five-point lead at half time they finished the game with a 28-point lead.

The win means PVI start their season 2-0 after a dominant weekend in London. Mater Dei picked up their first defeat of the season.

Next up for the champions is St. Andrew’s Episcopal School at home on the 8th of December. Mater Dei face Capo Valley Christian on the 13th of December
