There were 129 goals and numerous talking points in the FA Youth Cup third-round as the Premier League and Championship sides came into the competition.

Only four Premier League sides exit the Third Round

It was a profitable round for the 20 Premier League clubs as only four clubs were knocked out. The third-round casualties from the Premier League were Tottenham Hotspur, Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Crystal Palace, Tottenham, and Wolves suffered 3-1 defeats to Manchester United, QPR and Leicester City respectively, while Brentford lost 5-0 to Aston Villa.

Shock of the round – QPR upset Tottenham

The biggest upset of the round came at Broadway Hall where Tottenham hosted category 2 opponents QPR. Rio Kyerematen’s 59th minute goal looked set to send Tottenham to the fourth round, however QPR equalised in the 88th minute through Teddy Lawrence to send the game to extra-time. Goals from Kieran Petrie and Lawrence again in extra-time secured a 3-1 for QPR to knock out their Premier League opponents.

Arsenal demolish Millwall to cement themselves as one of the favourites

Arsenal beat Milwall 6-0 in front of a crowd of 749 at Meadow Park, the home of Boreham Wood. The goals came from Jim Gower, Ethan Nwaneri, Michal Rosiak, Amario Cozier-Duberry and a double from Omari Benjamin.

Cozier-Duberry could prove to be the key man for Arsenal in the coming rounds as he has already scored two goals and assisted three in the Premier League 2 this season. Nwaneri, who become the youngest ever player to feature in a Premier League match will also be a key figure for Arsenal.

West Ham continue sparkling form

West Ham saw off Sheffield United 3-1 to continue a remarkable season so far for the Hammers. They have won 11 out of 11 games in the U18 Premier League South, 15 points ahead of second placed Tottenham.

Callum Marshall has been the top scorer for West Ham with eight goals in the league this season. He carried on his rich vein of form in the Youth Cup with a 56th minute goal against the Blades. Divin Mubama scored a brace for the Hammers in this tie to add to his four league goals this season.

Five for Rodriguez-Gentile

The individual performance of the round came from the Brazilian born Felipe Rodriguez-Gentile. The 16-year-old scored five goals for Preston North End in their 6-1 thrashing of Rotherham United. Rodriguez Gentile has scored 18 goals in the EFL Youth Alliance league for Preston this season and has already been linked with the likes of Manchester United. He will be one to keep an eye on in their fourth-round tie away at Gillingham.
