Hugo Gonzalez wins MVP at Euroleague Adidas Next Generation Qualifier

Real Madrid U18’s Hugo Gonzalez was awarded the first MVP award of the opening Euroleague Adidas Next Generation Qualifier in Munich, Germany.

The 6ft6 forward averaged 19 points, three rebounds, and two steals throughout the tournament which helped his side take the ANGT Munich crown.

In the final game against Zalgiris Kaunas, Gonzalez had 22 points, three rebounds, and four steals in a 84-64 victory, which saw them into the ANGT finals.

As well as winning MVP honors, the Spaniard was inducted into the All-Tournament First Team with Madrid teammate Jan Vide.

The Tournament

Gonzalez and his Real Madrid side were dominant throughout the tournament, beating every side they faced by at least 20 points or more.

They opened the tournament on Friday with a 60-103 victory over Ratiopharm Ulm, and followed that emphatic win up with a 92-62 win over Emporio Armani Milan.

The former Spanish U17 international scored 14 and 17 points to open his account for the tournament.

In round three of the tournament, the best performance yet came from the Spanish side, as they beat ALBA Berlin 47-113 in a more than convincing blowout victory.

This game saw Gonzalez at his best for his Madrid team after scoring 24 points, shooting 66.7% from beyond the arc and picking up three rebounds and three steals.

Their next game would be the final as they beat fellow group toppers Zalgiris Kaunas by a 20-point margin.

Gonzalez was highly efficient from the field, averaging 59.3% from the two-point range, 61.1% from the three-point range, and 75% from the free-throw line.

‘Los Blancos’ has won its last ten ANGT qualifying tournaments and won its last 21 qualifying games. Their record in the last ten seasons of qualifying games is 42-1.

The next qualifying tournaments take place in Belgrade Serbia, Patras Greece, and Varese Italy.

The next time Gonzalez and Madrid take part will be in Berlin at the Final Four tournament.
