Ethan McLeod has signed his first professional contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers after impressing coaches over the last few seasons.

The 18-year-old first joined Wolves as an under-7 and has progressed through the academy there ever since. Originally a midfielder, McLeod has developed into a forward in recent seasons but his development has been hindered by injury in recent months.

The forward played regularly for the Wolves U18s over the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons and impressed coaches with his hard work and dedication.

McLeod has only featured once this season for the U18s due to his misfortune with injuries but he did mark that appearance with a goal.

Wolves Academy manager, Jon Hunter-Barrett, said: “I’m really excited for Ethan. He’s been here for a very long time, has progressed right the way through and has played in age groups higher up throughout his journey.

“Ethan’s an exciting, dynamic player with lots of pace. Unfortunately he’s suffered a few setbacks at youth team level that have limited the amount of football he’s been able to play.”

Hunter-Barrett added he takes extra pride in seeing a player rise through the ranks all the way from pre-academy to professional contract, and is looking forward to seeing McLeod continue his growth in the old gold.

“It’s always rewarding because there are a number of people he’s passed through to get to this point.

“His next step when he’s fully recovered and back to full fitness is to make that cross between under-18s and under-21s football.

“It’s always a big step from 16s to 18s and then 18s to 21s. It’s then an even bigger step to first-team football. We believe Ethan has the tools to cope with the demands of what’s being asked of him and show everyone why he’s been rewarded with this contract.”
