Only two fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League over the weekend. Both took place in Manchester as Manchester United overcame old rivals Liverpool while Manchester City extended the gap at the top with a win over Nottingham Forest. Despite the lack of games, plenty of talent was on display as usual. Here are the three standout stars of game week 16.

Justin Oboavwoduo, Manchester City

Justin Oboavwoduo scored twice as City thumped Forest 5-0 to go seven points clear at the top of the table. The forward’s second-half brace helped to kill the game off for City as their unbeaten run extends to seven league matches. The 16-year-old’s goals take him up to 11 for the season in all competitions. He also moves up to joint second in the U18 Premier League North goalscoring charts, joining a host of players on seven.

Farid Alfa-Ruprecht started the game on the bench for City but that didn’t stop him from making a big impact. The German U17 international entered the pitch in the 67th minute and grabbed himself a goal and an assist to put the win beyond all doubt for City. The forward grabbed his second goal of the season in the 84th minute before setting up Oboavwoduo’s second four minutes later.

James Scanlon dictated the game from the centre of the park as United beat 10-man Liverpool 3-2. The 16-year-old opened the scoring when he reacted fastest to a loose ball in the Liverpool box following a save from Luke Hewitson. The midfielder was allowed more space in the game after Liverpool were forced to change their system following the red card. This was well punished by Scanlon as he played a key role in United’s attacking play as they soon raced into a 3-1 lead.
