U18 Premier League: Top performers from 4th February 2023

Only two fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League over the weekend due to a lot of clubs having cup commitments. Derby County and Manchester United played out a hard-fought 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Sunderland overcame Leeds United 2-0 to close the gap to leaders Manchester City. The quarter-finals of the U18 Premier League Cup took place over the weekend as well, providing a lot of drama and entertainment. Here are the three standout stars from league and cup action this weekend.

Daniel Kanu, Charlton Athletic

Daniel Kanu grabbed two assists as second-tier Charlton Athletic beat West Bromwich Albion 4-2 to reach the U18 Premier League Cup semi-finals. The forward set up second-half goals for Patrick Casey and Joshua Laqueretabua to get the Addicks over the line. The 18-year-old’s assists move him up to joint second in the assist charts in the competition.

Ewan Simpson, Aston Villa

Ewan Simpson scored a goal and notched an assist in Aston Villa’s 4-0 victory over Southampton in the cup. The 16-year-old opened the scoring for Villa before setting up Charlie Lutz to double the lead half an hour later. The Villains continued their great cup form with the most emphatic victory of the quarter-finals. The Scotland U17 international is enjoying his debut season with the Villa U18s and moves up to four goals in all competitions after the weekend.

Omari Kellyman, Aston Villa

Like Simpson, Omari Kellyman grabbed a goal and an assist in Villa’s win at Southampton. The forward set up Rory Wilson to make it 3-0 in the second half. Kellyman then got on the scoresheet himself to wrap up the game and confirm the Villain’s place in the semi-finals. The Northern Ireland U17 international grabbed his second goal of the competition as well as his second assist as he continues to make a mark in the U18 Premier League Cup.
