UEFA Youth League Full Knockout Draw Confirmed

The full draw for the knockout stages of the UEFA Youth League took place this afternoon. The draws for the round of 16, the quarter-finals and the semi-finals took place to map out the rest of this year’s competition. All knockout ties are single-legged ties that will be decided by extra time if level after 90 minutes and penalties if required. Here’s everything you need to know about the knockout stages.

Round of 16

The round of 16 takes place over the 28th of February and the 1st of March. The last 16 sees the eight winners from the group stage face off against the eight winners of the playoff round.

The two English teams in the round of 16 draw are Liverpool and Manchester City as they both won their groups. The Reds made it as far as the quarter-finals last campaign while City’s best finish is the semis.

Elsewhere in the draw, there are two-time winners Barcelona as well as other previous winners FC Porto, Real Madrid and Red Bull Salzburg. There is also previous finalists Paris Saint Germain.

Atletico Madrid and AFC Ajax have both recently made semi-finals. Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon both made last season’s quarter-finals. AZ Alkmaar and KRC Genk both make the round of 16 for successive seasons.

AC Milan are in the knockouts for the first time since the competition’s inaugural season. Hajduk Split are in the round of 16 for the first time in their history. Finally, Ukrainian side Ruh Lviv have made the knockouts in their debut season in the UEFA Youth League.

The draw for the 2022/23 UEFA Youth League round of 16 is as follows:

Atletico Madrid vs KRC Genk

Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint Germain

Hadjuk Split vs Manchester City

The round of 16 kicks off in two weeks time with the first team drawn in each match-up playing at home. The eight last 16 winners will progress to the quarter-finals.

Quarter-Finals

The draw for the 2022/23 UEFA Youth League quarter-finals is as follows:

FC Barcelona/AZ Alkmaar vs Real Madrid/FC Salzburg

AC Milan/Ruh Lviv vs Atletico Madrid/KRC Genk

Sporting Lisbon/AFC Ajax vs Liverpool/FC Porto

Borussia Dortmund/Paris Saint Germain vs Hadjuk Split/Manchester City

The quarter-finals take place over the 14th and 15th of March and will see the winners of the round of 16 ties face off. The winner of the first round of 16 tie drawn will be the home side for the quarters. The four winners progress to finals weekend.

Finals Weekend

The 2022/23 UEFA Youth League will conclude in finals weekend in Nyon, Switzerland. The four winners of the quarter-finals will travel to Switzerland in April to compete for the trophy. The semi-finals will take place on the 21st of April. The winner of quarter-final three & quarter-final one will face each other in one tie and the winner of quarter-final four and quarter-final two makes up the other. The winners of quarter-finals three and four will be considered the home side as they were drawn first.

The Final is played three days later in Nyon on the 24th of April. The two winning semi-finalists will compete for the chance to be crowned champions. The winner of semi-final one will be considered the home team for the final for administrative reasons.
