NORTH

A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League North this weekend. There were some big results at both ends of the table. The top four sides all picked up important wins while Blackburn Rovers pulled themselves off the foot of the table. Here are the three standout stars from a thrilling week of academy football in the north.

Ethan Moore, Sunderland

Ethan Moore dictated the game for Sunderland in their 3-1 victory against Nottingham Forest. The 18-year-old grabbed two goals and an assist just as he did in the reverse fixture against Forest in October. The midfielder gave Sunderland the lead twice before setting up Jake Waters to wrap up the points late on. His haul moves him up to five goals and three assists for the season.

Jayden Danns, Liverpool

Jayden Danns grabbed a brace off the bench to bring Liverpool back from 3-1 down to earn a draw against Derby County. The forward entered the field in the 59th minute and scored a minute later to bring the Reds back into the game. The 17-year-old then stepped up to take a stoppage-time penalty to ensure the points were shared. Danns has scored in successive league games for the first time at U18 level.

Victor Musa, Manchester United

Victor Musa scored twice in the second half in Manchester United’s 3-0 victory against Newcastle United. The 16-year-old doubled United’s lead after the break before wrapping up the points in stoppage time. After playing a bit-part role at the start of the season, the forward has been thrust into the starting line-up for United in recent weeks. Musa has paid back the faith from coaches with four goals and an assist in his last four games.

SOUTH

Five fixtures took place over the weekend in the U18 Premier League South. There was a whopping 22 goals over the five clashes and there were key results at the top of the table whilst more misery was piled on for the teams down the bottom. Here are the three standout stars from game week 15 in the south.

Tommy-Lee Higgs, Southampton

Tommy-Lee Higgs grabbed a brace in Southampton’s 4-2 victory away at Aston Villa. The 18-year-old scored just before the break to put the Saints 2-1 ahead and then doubled their lead ten minutes after half-time. Higgs’ two goals were key to Southampton getting their revenge on the Villains for knocking them out of the U18 Premier League Cup last week.

Donnell McNeilly, Chelsea

Donnell McNeilly ran the show for Chelsea as they beat leaders West Ham United 3-1. The attacker opened the scoring for the Blues before reinstating their lead after the interval. McNeilly then set up Tudor Mendel-Idowu to make sure of the victory and move Chelsea level on points with second-place Crystal Palace. The 17-year-old’s haul moves him up to 10 goal contributions in the league in just nine games this season.

Harry Mills, Brighton & Hove Albion

Harry Mills scored twice in Brighton & Hove Albion’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal. The wing-back scored his first league goal of the season to equalise for the Seagulls. Mills then made sure of the points early in the second half to move Brighton above the Gunners in the table. The 16-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough season with the Seagulls U18s and has also scored twice in the U18 Premier League Cup this campaign.
