Another full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League North this weekend. An exciting weekend saw some big movement down the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, the top two, Manchester City and Sunderland, continue to pick up points and keep up the pressure on each other. Here are the three standout stars from a thrilling week of academy football in the north.

Carlos Richards, Derby County

Carlos Richards grabbed a goal and two assists in Derby County’s 4-2 victory against Leeds United. The Gibraltar U17 international opened the scoring for the Rams before setting up goals for Jaydan Davidson and substitute Lennon Wheeldon. Richards only returned from injury in January but has played a key role in the recent turnaround of form at Derby. The midfielder ran the show against Leeds to earn the Rams another crucial three points.

Jaydan Davidson, Derby County

Jaydan Davidson scored a brace in Derby’s win against Leeds. The 16-year-old put the Rams’ 2-1 up late in the first half before notching a second three minutes later. Davidson has been on incredible form since earning his place in the side back in January. The striker has scored five goals in his four games at U18 Level this season. His goals at the weekend proved to be the difference as the Rams overtook Leeds to move up to 11th in the table.

Darren Palmer, Newcastle United

Newcastle United produced an incredible performance as they thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-1. The pick of the bunch was Darren Palmer who grabbed a goal and an assist from the centre of midfield. The 17-year-old set up Johnny Emerson for Newcastle’s third before adding the fourth himself in the second half. Palmer is enjoying his debut season at U18 level and scored his first goal at the weekend. He has also notched four assists in the U18 Premier League North this season.
