Charnwood College Riders defeated Itchen College 96 – 68 in emphatic fashion to advance to the final four of the EABL.

The North’s number two seed were rampant, particularly in the fourth quarter and the dominant Lamarana Diallo commanded his team to victory by contributing with 20 points.

Riders brought the regular season to a close with a 66-77 win over Sheffield last time out with Caiden Ross leading his side to victory with 23 points. Itchen on the other hand were defeated by the South’s number one seed Barking Abbey despite Josh Smith-White’s 16-point effort.

Charnwood led 22-13 following a scrappy first quarter helped by Oscar Curran’s eight points including two big buckets from beyond the arc. He ended the game with 15 points.

Riders continued to lead going into half time and Itchen did their best to close the gap on their opponents. Charnwood’s high intensity defence and excellent transitions made for a hard fought first half which ended 41-31.

Tyler Fairbairn racked up 20 points for Itchen and was aggressive for the visitors as they continued to try and get going in the game.

Riders’ slick ball movement proved vital in an exciting third quarter with Itchen refusing to lie down despite trailing 64-48 heading into the fourth.

The game began to slip away from Itchen with Charnwood showing their relentless offense, closing the game out with a 32-point quarter, and booking a place in the final four.

Charnwood’s triumph means they will face a tough Barking Abbey side in the semi-final as they continue their title defence. Itchen face elimination in the quarter final but can be proud of their efforts.

The other semi-final will stage a Lancashire derby where Myerscough College will take on Manchester Magic Academy.
