England’s men’s under-17s ensured qualification for this summer’s UEFA U17 European Championships with impressive victories against Denmark and Northern Ireland, despite suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Netherlands in their last elite round group game. However, Ryan Garry’s side secured enough points to ensure that they will be one of the 16 teams at this summer’s tournament.

England was drawn in Group 3 of the Elite round alongside the Netherlands, Denmark, and Northern Ireland, with the Dutch hosting the games.

England got their campaign off to a winning start by beating Denmark 3-1, courtesy of a brace from Ethan Nwaneri and a Justin Oboavwoduo goal.

Then, three days later, Nwaneri scored another brace to help England’s U17s clinch another victory against Northern Ireland as they took a giant step towards qualifying for the U17 Euros.

England fell to a 1-0 defeat against the Dutch in their last group game. Although the Young Lions battled hard against their opponents, the two teams fought each other to see who would secure top spot in the elite round Group 3. Despite the disappointing result, Ryan Garry’s side qualified for the tournament as one of the seven best second-placed teams from the elite round, achieving six points from a possible nine.
