West Ham United defeated Southampton in a seven-goal thriller led by a Divin Mubama hat-trick to reach the FA Youth Cup Final.

The dominant display means the Hammers will face a strong Arsenal side in the final of the competition.

The Hammers defeated Ipswich Town in another goal fest at Portman Road in the quarterfinals, involving late drama as two goals deep into extra time secured them a semi-final spot.

Southampton beat Preston North End 3-1 in the previous round thanks to a Kami Doyle brace and a late strike from Dom Ballard.

After a fast start from West Ham, Gideon Kodua’s cross found Mubama, who put the hosts ahead with a clever finish at the near post.

Just a matter of moments later, Callum Marshall drilled his strike hard and low into the bottom right corner to double the Hammers’ advantage.

With the Saints attempting to play out from the back and West Ham relentlessly pressing, Mohamed Adli played the ball straight into the path of Mubama, but the goalkeeper made up for his error by denying the shot.

As the first half drew on, the intensity of the Hammers slowed, and Southampton managed to get their foot on the ball and enjoyed some possession as they pushed for a goal.

Adli made several crucial saves in the first half to deny the relentless West Ham attack and to keep his side in the tie.

West Ham scored their third goal of the evening through Mubama, who was played in on goal and poked his shot past Adli for his second of the game.

Despite the three-goal deficit, Southampton continued to get forward, with Sonnie Davis coming close as he dragged a shot wide of the far post after 57 minutes.

After 64 minutes, Jayden Meghoma used his pace and power to drive down the left-hand side and found Ballard in the box, who slotted home to give his side some renewed hope.

West Ham quickly responded through captain Kodua, as he shifted the ball onto his right foot and finished into the far corner for 4-1.

Mubama completed his semi-final hat-trick by getting on the end of Marshall’s rebounded attempt, striking into the back of the net to put the game out of sight in the 72nd minute.

Substitute Favour Fawunmi got himself on the scoresheet moments after coming on, tapping home from a rebound at the back post to cap off a dominant West Ham performance.

In their next fixture, West Ham will face their fellow finalists Arsenal in the U18 Premier League. Southampton will travel to Tottenham, also in the U18 PL.
