West Ham United crowned U18 Premier League South Champions

West Ham United U18s secured the U18 Premier League South title with a 2-0 win over London rivals Arsenal U18s.

Substitute Divine Mukasa opened the scoring on 68 minutes with a very accomplished finish, netting his first goal at U18 level. Gideon Kodua doubled the lead with ten minutes remaining, confirming the Young Irons as champions.

West Ham United has amassed 51 points from 20 games and has two matches remaining in the 2022/23 league campaign. The Young Irons have achieved 17 wins out of 20 league games, losing three while scoring 69 goals and conceding only 29. West Ham United went on a 12-game winning streak from August to January, with their winning run ending against Southampton.

Strikers Callum Marshall and Gideon Kodua have been phenomenal for Kevin Keen’s side in the league, scoring 14 and 11 goals respectively in the U18 Premier League South Division. In addition, Lewis Orford and 16-year-old Favour Fawunmi have also contributed heavily, scoring nine and seven league goals. Both players could get into double figures before the league campaign ends with two matches remaining.

West Ham United U18s will travel to Leicester City on Saturday, 22nd April, before concluding their league campaign with a home game against second-placed Fulham at Little Heath Sports Ground on Saturday, 29th April.

As winners of the U18 Premier League South, Kevin Keen’s side will face Manchester City in a play-off fixture for the national title.

The Young Hammers also have a chance to secure a domestic double as they compete in the FA Youth Cup final against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, 25th April.
