The biggest game of the U18 Premier League North season takes place this weekend as leaders Manchester City welcome second-place Sunderland. The Citizens currently sit top of the table with 54 points. The Black Cats sit a point behind them with both sides having two games left including this clash.

A victory for City would confirm them as northern champions. As a result it would book their place in the play-off fixture against West Ham United for the chance to retain their U18 Premier League title. A Sunderland win sees them move two points clear at the top with one match remaining. A draw between the sides means City would need to win their final game of the season to be champions.

The Citizens come into the clash 15 games unbeaten since they lost the mini-derby to Manchester United back in November. This includes a run of 11 straight league wins dating back to the turn of the year. As for the Black Cats, they enter the match-up on a run of one defeat in 11 league games. They have won their last seven matches, last tasting defeat back in February.

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw when they met in November. Will Cain opened the scoring for Sunderland before Emilio Lawrence equalised for City shortly after. The game was very well-matched overall just as the two have been over the whole of the season. They are the top two scorers in the league as well as the two best defences and sit just below 20 points ahead of the rest of the pack.

One of the biggest games in U18 Premier League history gets underway at the Manchester City Academy Stadium at 13:00 on Saturday 22nd April and is being live-streamed on City+ and the Manchester City Recast channel.
