West Ham United won their second trophy in as many weeks as they defeated Arsenal 5-1 in the FA Youth Cup Final at the Emirates Stadium.

Omari Benjamin opened the scoring for Arsenal but goals from George Earthy, Callum Marshall and Gideon Kodua put the Hammers in control at half-time.

Despite pressure from the Gunners, they couldn’t get back into the game. Kaelan Casey and Josh Briggs added goals from corners in the second half to secure the fourth FA Youth Cup in West Ham’s history.

The Gunners took the lead after seven minutes when Amario Cozier-Duberry broke in behind and got a shot away. His effort was saved but Benjamin reacted quickly to the loose ball and fired a crisp strike into the far corner.

West Ham grew into the game and equalised in the 17th minute when Earthy drove forward from midfield and unleashed a thunderbolt across Noah Cooper from the edge of the box.

The Hammers took the lead shortly after when a fast break down the right resulted in a low cross into the box which Marshall tucked into the back of the net for his 21st goal of the season in all competitions.

West Ham extended their lead in the 41st minute when Josh Robinson miss-kicked the ball on the halfway line allowing Kodua to break free. The forward spotted the keeper off his line and chipped the ball over him from 30 yards out.

Kevin Keen’s side wrapped up the game in the 78th minute when a delightful corner to the back post met Casey who headed home to make it 4-1 to the Hammers, the same scoreline as their last visit to Arsenal.

Things got better for the Hammers in stoppage time when substitute Briggs got on the end of another delightful corner to poke home a fifth goal.

The victory for West Ham sees them add a second piece of silverware for the season, after claiming the U18 Premier League South title two weeks ago. They’ll have the chance for a treble when they take on Manchester City for the U18 Premier League national title next month.
