The 20-year-old was pivotal in Italy’s campaign, scoring seven goals from midfield and impressing with his individual performances throughout.

The Golden Ball is awarded to the best player of the tournament and the Golden Boot is given to the player with the most goals, Casadei was awarded both accolades.

Italy suffered a heart-breaking end to their world cup run, conceding a goal in the 86th minute and narrowly losing out to Uruguay.

However, the midfielder will have plenty to bring home, winning the two top individual awards as well as the invaluable experience of captaining his country at youth level.

The Italian starlet scored a brace twice against Brazil and Dominican Republic as well as his 87th minute penalty being responsible for England’s round of 16 exit.

He added a goal in both the quarter and semi-finals against Columbia and South Korea respectively and was ever present in the Italian midfield, playing every available minute in the competition.

Along with the seven goals came two assists, with one coming in his impressive tournament opener against Brazil and the other against Columbia.

He signed for Chelsea from Inter Milan for a fee of £17million last summer and spent the season on loan at Championship side Reading.

Casadei will be looking to break into the Chelsea side next season as they enter a new era under recently appointed manager Mauricio Pochettino.
