The clubs reached an agreement last week and the 20-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal with Utrecht.

Iqbal joined United at just five years old and represented the club at every age group as well as breaking into the first team on the European stage.

Looking for more playing time, the midfielder issued an emotional statement on social media bidding farewell to his boyhood club.

He said: “Manchester United has been my home since I was five years old. Alongside my family, this club has developed me into the person that I am today.

“From the Cliff to Carrington and then to the Theatre Of Dreams (OT). I have so many incredible memories of my 15 years associated with this amazing club.”

The youngster also detailed his appreciation for United’s academy, which has famously produced an abundance of talent over the years.

“The Academy is a special place that makes dreams come true for so many.

“That was certainly the case for me. I’ll never forget standing on the touchline at Theatre Of Dreams (OT), waiting to come on for my debut. That feeling of pride will live with me forever.”

Iqbal became the first British Southeast Asian to play for Manchester United when he came off the bench against Young Boys in the Champions League group stage two years ago.

He now has the opportunity to showcase his talent at a high level in the Eredivisie with FC Utrecht, where he’ll face the likes of Ajax and PSV as he continues his development.
