16-year-old rising star Ethan Nwaneri has agreed to an initial scholarship intake, paving the way for him to sign his first professional contract when he turns 17 in March.

According to Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, reports suggest that the contract will be valid for 2.6 years plus being the highest salary offer ever made by Arsenal to an academy player.

There had been significant uncertainty surrounding Nwaneri’s future at the club, with Chelsea and Manchester City showing considerable interest in him.

Nwaneri made history last season when he made a late substitute appearance in Arsenal’s 3-0 away win against Brentford in September, becoming the youngest-ever player for both Arsenal and the Premier League. This was a proud moment for him and his family, showcasing his progress through the ranks at Arsenal’s Hale End Academy.

The talented attacking midfielder featured in 26 games for the Arsenal U18s & U21s combined last season, netting six goals across various competitions. Additionally, he played a crucial role in the Arsenal U18s team that reached their first FA Youth Cup final in 14 years.

In the upcoming 2023-24 season, Ethan Nwaneri will remain eligible to play for the U18s side, and it is likely that he will participate in some games at that level. However, there is a strong possibility that he will be extensively involved with the U21s, as he aims to seize more opportunities with the first team.
