18-year-old Arsenal defender Elian Quesada-Thorn has signed his first professional contract with the Gunners.

The Costa Rican youth international has been with the club since 2015 and has already made 22 appearances across various competitions. Last season, Quesada-Thorn featured for both the U18s and U21s, playing 12 games before an unfortunate injury cut short his campaign.

Despite his injury setback, Quesada-Thorn had the opportunity to train with the Arsenal first team on several occasions. However, he was unable to participate in Europa League matches due to his amateur status at the time.

With his new professional contract, Quesada-Thorn is now eligible to compete in the Champions League this season. While his focus may primarily be on impressing the coaching staff of Arsenal’s U21s, he could also feature in the upcoming UEFA Youth League campaign with the U19s.

The left-back position will present significant competition for Quesada-Thorn, with Lino Sousa vying for the spot. Nevertheless, Quesada-Thorn may receive more playing time than anticipated, as Sousa could potentially earn call-ups to the first team. Additionally, Henry Jeffcott will provide healthy competition for the left-back role in the U21s.

Expressing his joy upon signing the contract, Quesada-Thorn shared his excitement in an interview: “I am delighted to have my family, Per, and everyone here with me to sign the contract. This is a dream come true for me, as I have always been a fan of this club since my days at Hale End. When they offered the contract, I knew there was no question about it. I love this club.”
