Manchester United suffered a 2-0 defeat to German side Bayern Munich in their opening group game of the UEFA Youth League. Goals from Robert Ramsak and Michael Scott secured the win for Michael Hartmann’s Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich, who were eliminated in the group stage of last year’s competition, aimed to make amends this year. Meanwhile, Manchester United returned to the competition after a year’s absence.

In the 6th minute, Elhy Harrison had to make a crucial save to deny Bayern Munich’s right-back, Vincent Manuba.

Bayern Munich dominated the game, while Manchester United struggled to connect their passes.

Manchester United’s first significant chance came in the 15th minute when Ethan Williams took a direct free-kick, but Bayern Munich’s Max Schmitt made a save with his feet.

Five minutes before halftime, Robert Ramsak opened the scoring for Bayern Munich. Adam Aznou Ben Cheikh delivered a low cross into the box, and Ramsak evaded his marker to tap in and give his side the lead.

Bayern Munich continued their dominance in the second half. Elhy Harrison pulled off an impressive save to deny Aznou Ben Cheikh from close range.

Manchester United had a 10-minute spell from the 55th minute where they looked threatening but lacked the finishing touch.

With ten minutes to go, substitute Michael Scott sealed the win for Bayern Munich. They displayed patient build-up play around Manchester United’s box, and Jonathan Asp Jensen set up Scott to convert past Harrison, making it 2-0 for the German side.

In the dying moments of the game, Ruben Curley had a chance to reduce the deficit for Travis Binnion’s side, but his shot deflected off the woodwork.

Bayern Munich emerged as 2-0 victors, putting them joint-top of Group A with Copenhagen, both teams having three points each. Manchester United and Galatasaray are both on 0 points. On matchday 2, Bayern Munich will travel to Denmark to face Copenhagen, while Manchester United will host Galatasaray.
