U18 Premier League: Top performers from 23rd September 2023

A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League this week. In the south, Fulham’s lead at the top of the table grew to three points after they beat Crystal Palace 4-3. In the north, Manchester United maintained their 100% win record with a 3-2 victory against Sunderland, rivals Manchester City also remain unbeaten. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Rory Wilson, Aston Villa

Rory Wilson scored four goals as Aston Villa thrashed West Bromwich Albion 7-1. The Scotland U17 international equalised for Villa midway through the first half. He tucked home from the penalty spot to net the Villains third before completing his hat-trick just after the hour mark. The forward added a fourth late on to take him to an incredible nine goals in five appearances this season. Wilson is the top scorer in the U18 Premier League this season.

Chido Obi-Martin, Arsenal

Chido Obi-Martin netted a hat-trick in Arsenal’s 4-0 victory over Southampton in what was just his second game of the season. The 15-year-old opened the scoring shortly before half time for his first career goal at U18 level. He grabbed a second midway through the second half before sealing his hat-trick with five minutes. The forward will be hoping to push on from this fantastic display and fully break into the U18 setup.

Zach Marsh, Crystal Palace

Zach Marsh was the star of the show despite Crystal Palace falling to a 4-3 defeat away at Fulham. The England U18 international scored all three of Palace’s goals to double his goal tally for the season. The forward scored twice in the opening 25 minutes to put the Eagles 2-0 up before Fulham took control of the game away from them. He stepped up to take a penalty in the 98th minute for his hat-trick and to cement a brilliant individual display despite the result.

Ashton Muir, Manchester City

Ashton Muir grabbed two assists as Manchester City maintained their 100% start to the season with a 5-2 win against Leeds United. The 17-year-old set up Alfie Harrison for City’s second goal before assisting Ezra Carrington’s wondergoal in the second half. The midfielder has had a stunning start to the season with two goals and three assists in just three league matches. He is already halfway to reaching his goal tally from last campaign.
