15-year-old Kobe Thompson channeled his inner Kobe Bryant in the U16 NBL Northern Conference 1, dropping 60 points against the Bradford Dragons.

This was a U16 NBL regular season match-up that took place on Saturday 21st October 2023 in Bradford.

As the star player for the Tees Valley Mohawks, Thompson consistently executed tough shots around the basket, utilising his quick footwork to reach the hoop with ease. He shot the ball well from long range nailing both of his three-point attempts, and showcasing a mid-range game.

Following Thompson’s outstanding display, his team now boasts a perfect 4-0 record for the season, having defeated the Bradford Dragons twice, as well as the East Durham Lions and City of Leeds once.

Thompson has been consistently impressive this season, notching up no less than 23 points per game. His performances include 23 against Bradford, 29 against East Durham, 30 against the City of Leeds and an astonishing 60 points against Bradford the second time round.

Speaking exclusively to EliteScholars, Thompson expressed his satisfaction: “Overall, the game went well, and as a team, we’ve extended our winning streak to 4-0 in the National League Conference. I’m extremely pleased with my career-high 60-point game and I’m ready for what’s next, hoping to maintain our winning streak. We have a long season ahead, facing some tough opponents, but right now, I’m enjoying playing with my club and my teammates.”

The 15-year-old hailing from Hartlepool in the Northeast of England initiated his basketball journey at Tees Valley before moving to the East Durham Lions, where he spent two seasons. Thompson has now returned to the Tees Valley Mohawks for his final season of U16s basketball, with aspirations to play in the EABL as his ultimate goal.
