Kane Taylor and Jaden Heskey both scored braces as Manchester City cruised to a 4-0 victory against Young Boys, taking a significant step towards securing a spot in the next round of the UEFA Youth League.

Brian Barry-Murphy’s side entered the match with a previous home victory of 5-2 against Red Star Belgrade and an away draw of 1-1 against Leipzig. A win here would push Manchester City closer to qualification for the knockout stages. In contrast, Young Boys had suffered losses in their first two UEFA Youth League group stage games, making this match a must-win to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

First Half:

The opening ten minutes of the match witnessed Manchester City dominating possession without truly troubling their opponents. In the 18th minute, Kane Taylor broke the deadlock, benefiting from an excellent build-up involving Tomas Galvez and Joel Ndala on the left. Ndala delivered a low cross, and Taylor curled the ball into the top-right corner, giving Manchester City the lead. He then doubled his tally in the 33rd minute, dispossessing Leo Buljan and unleashing a shot past Ardian Bajrami. With a comfortable 2-0 lead, Manchester City went into half-time in control, leaving Young Boys with a mountain to climb.

Second Half:

Manchester City picked up where they left off in the second half, keeping Young Boys at bay. Jaden Heskey all but sealed the match in the 64th minute, heading in Max Alleyne’s ball after a short corner. Five minutes later, Heskey grabbed his brace when Lakyle Samuel’s rebound shot deflected off him and past Bajrami.

Though Young Boys had a chance for a consolation goal when Lutfi Dalipi forced a save from True Grant, they couldn’t find the back of the net.

True Grant made a crucial save later on to deny Dalipi and maintain Manchester City’s clean sheet. The match concluded with Manchester City winning 4-0, remaining unbeaten and extending their lead in the group to seven points. The two teams will meet again for Matchday 4 of the 2023-24 UEFA Youth League in two weeks.
