Trent Kone-Doherty has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool after an incredible start to the season for the U18s and U21s.

The 17-year-old joined the Reds’ academy last summer after rising through the ranks at his hometown club Derry City.

Described by the club as “a winger blessed with skill and pace,” Kone-Doherty quickly established himself as a key part of the attacking lineup for Liverpool U18s when he arrived last July.

The teenager had a fine first season on Merseyside with the U18s, scoring 11 goals in all competitions and forming a very dangerous trio up front alongside Lewis Koumas and Ben Doak, who have also both signed professional deals in the last year.

As well as thriving with the U18s, he has gained valuable experience with the U19 group in the UEFA Youth League where he scored three goals in five matches.

The forward also made his debut for the U21s in the Premier League International Cup and marked it with a goal. His 22/23 season was halted by injury which brought an early end to a brilliant debut campaign at Liverpool.

He has returned from injury this season and has begun the campaign in very similar form with five goals and two assists in five matches in the U18 Premier League, including a hat-trick against Sunderland.

Kone-Doherty has broken into the U21s setup this season and scored on his Premier League 2 debut away at Derby County in August. He has also already trained with the Liverpool senior squad and has been capped by the Republic of Ireland up to U18 level.
