Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur returned to the top of the table in the south with a 4-1 win against Leicester City. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Victor Musa, Manchester United

He doubled his tally in the 74th minute before wrapping up his hat-trick five minutes later. The forward now has five league goals this campaign which is just one less than his tally for the whole of last season in less than half the games.

Kieran Morrison grabbed two goals and an assist to help Liverpool to a 4-2 win away at Stoke City. The Northern Ireland U17 opened the scoring in the second minute before setting up Cody Pennington to double the Reds’ advantage. The midfielder then bagged his second in the 20th minute to restore the two-goal lead for Liverpool after they were instantly pegged back. Morrison features in the list for a second week running after his hat-trick against Middlesbrough last weekend.

Emeka Adiele, West Ham United

Emeka Adiele scored twice and provided an assist as West Ham United thrashed Reading 5-1. The England U17 international assisted Jemiah Umolu’s opener in the first half before netting twice in quick succession as West Ham ran riot scoring three times in four minutes. The full-back scored his first in the 60th minute then added his second shortly after with Dan Rigge finding time to score in between. Adiele is making his mark at U18 level this season after making his debut last campaign.
