Six fixtures took place this week as the U18 Premier League returned from the festive break. Three matches took place in each division with the most significant result coming in the south as West Ham United beat Crystal Palace which took them to the top of the table. Here are the standout U18 Premier League players from the return of academy football for 2024.

Matthew Warhurst, Manchester City

Matthew Warhurst scored a hat-trick to earn Manchester City a 3-1 victory against Stoke City. The England U17 International opened the scoring after just four minutes and had already doubled his tally inside the opening ten minutes. His treble came in first half stoppage time to seal the points for City and cut the gap to leaders Manchester United. The forward is thriving in his debut campaign at U18 level with 10 goals in nine league matches this season.

Sean Neave, Newcastle United

Sean Neave netted twice as Newcastle United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2. The 16-year-old bagged twice in five minutes midway through the second half to turn the game into Newcastle’s favour after they were behind at the break. His quickfire brace takes him to double figures in the U18 Premier League North this season and sees him tied with Warhurst at the top of the goal charts.

Liam Jones, West Ham United

Liam Jones grabbed a goal and an assist in West Ham’s 5-4 thriller against Crystal Palace despite being on the pitch for just half an hour. The defender was introduced off the bench in the 62nd minute and it only took him seven minutes to find the net. He wasn’t finished there as three minutes later he set up Favour Fawunmi for the Irons’ fourth. The 18-year-old has now matched his goal tally from last season.

Zach Marsh, Crystal Palace

Zach Marsh bagged a hat-trick for Crystal Palace but it was not enough to get them the points against the Hammers. The England U18 International equalised for the Eagles after 11 minutes before putting them in front 10 minutes later. He restored the Palace lead minutes into the second half to complete his treble. Marsh’s record has been simply unbelievable this season and this was his SIXTH hat-trick of the season in all competitions and we’ve only just hit January! The future certainly looks bright.
