18-year-old Alfie Harrison has joined Newcastle United from Manchester City for an undisclosed fee until the summer of 2026.

After joining aged nine, the English midfielder spent nine years at City’s Academy and has made a big impression in the U18 Premier League this season.

Harrison will now make the move to the North East and will initially link up with Newcastle’s Professional Development Phase with a view to first team football down the line.

Although the official fee is undisclosed, reports suggest that the deal could reach £3.5m if all add-ons are achieved and the Citizens have inserted a 40% sell-on clause should the midfielder depart St James’ Park in the future.

The 18-year-old is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play out wide. He has risen through the ranks at City and impressed coaches with his technical ability on the ball and his passing range.

Harrison has a wand a left foot and an eye for goal which he is displaying in increasing fashion as he develops. He also regularly creates opportunities for teammates.

The midfielder signed a scholarship with the Blues in 2022 which saw him join the U18s setup for the 22/23 season. He scored six goals and provided four assists in his debut campaign, featuring 21 times as the young Citizens claimed the U18 Premier League title.

He has continued to impress this season where he has eight goals and three assists in eight league appearances. Harrison’s form was rewarded with his Premier League 2 debut last month and he trained with the first-team squad ahead of City’s Champions League clash with Young Boys in November.

Harrison is expected to spend the bulk of his time this season with the U21 setup at Newcastle and the midfielder is delighted with his move to the North East.

He said: “The size of the club and what it has got going for it is massive for me. It’s got a huge, passionate fanbase and I’m looking to really push on with my career now.

“If I was a kid now, looking at me signing for Newcastle United, it’s what dreams are made of. I’m really looking forward to what is coming and how I can progress in the coming years.

“I’m an effective player who can add goals and assists. I really like to create stuff but, on the other side, I’d also say I’m a very passionate player who always wants to win.”

Steve Harper, Academy Director at Newcastle, added: “We are delighted to secure Alfie’s signature. His hunger to represent Newcastle United and continue his development here was obvious from the outset.

“He’s a passionate, talented player who we are really looking forward to welcoming to the club and ultimately seeing in a black and white shirt.

“Alfie’s signing is part of a strategic move to make our PDP group younger, particularly the Under-21s, and I would like to thank the board and everybody involved at the club in making this move happen.”
