U18 Premier League: Top performers from 16th March 2024

A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League this week. In the north, Manchester United bounced back from suffering their first defeat of the season last week to remain 10 points clear at the top. Meanwhile, in the south, Chelsea now lead the way on goal difference after beating Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading this week. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Chido Obi-Martin, Arsenal

Chido Obi-Martin scored four goals as Arsenal thrashed Crystal Palace 8-3. The Denmark U17 international netted the Gunners’ third after 18 minutes and doubled his tally before half time. In the second half, the forward tucked home from the penalty spot to complete his hat-trick before adding a fourth with a minute to go. This haul takes Obi-Martin’s goal tally for the season to eight goals in ten league matches.

Donnell McNeilly, Chelsea

Donnell McNeilly bagged all three goals as Chelsea beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 on Wednesday night. The forward slotted away a penalty to open the scoring after five minutes before adding a second late in the first half. After the break, it only took McNeilly three minutes to complete his treble and send the Blues to the top of the table. The 18-year-old sits second in the goalscoring charts for the U18 Premier League South with an incredible 15 goals in 13 games.

Bendito Mantato, Manchester United

Bendito Mantato netted four goals in Manchester United’s 5-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers. The England U16 international pulled a goal back late in the first half after United found themselves 2-0 down. He grabbed his second a minute after half time and completed his hat-trick 20 minutes later before rounding off the game with his fourth and the Red Devils’ fifth. Mantato hasn’t featured regularly at U18 level this season but he’s managed an impressive five goals and two assists in his five matches.

Luke Enright, Stoke City

Luke Enright bagged a brace as Stoke City beat Newcastle United 4-2. The midfielder opened the scoring in the first half and doubled his tally shortly after the break to restore Stoke’s lead and continue their recent improvement in form. Enright is enjoyed his breakthrough season at U18 level and his goal tally now stands at eight goals in 14 league matches.
