Assane Sankare named MVP at Euroleague Adidas Next Generation Paris

After making history with U18 Next Generation Team Paris, Assane Sankare was crowned Most Valuable Player in the final ANGT qualifier.

In their triumph over INSEP Paris in the final, Sankare dropped 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks with a performance index rating of 33.

The Senegalese forward averaged 14.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals, 1.4 blocks with a PIR of 24.8 and was statistically up there with the very best in the competition.

NGF became the first select team to win an ANGT qualifying tournament with thanks to some excellent performances from the tournament MVP.

The Tournament

NGF faced Olympiacos Piraeus in their tournament opener and it was a tight affair until the fourth quarter, where the French side scored 36 points and held their opponents to five for an 87-60 win.

They then faced another tough test against U18 Paris Basketball, but NGF once again triumphed, winning 102-94 and were led by a Sankare 16-point, 11-rebound double double.

Paris’ Next Generation Team were faced with another stern obstacle in Joventut Badalona, and the home side won by just two points with the score reading 70-68 as Sankare grabbed 17 points, 11 boards, three blocks and two steals.

After a gruelling yet unbeaten group stage, NGF faced fellow invincible side Pole France INSEP Paris in a thrilling first place game and Sankare saved his best performance for last. The history making NGF team booked their spot in Berlin with an 86-78 win.

With the ANGT qualifiers now over, we have our final four of Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Ratiopharm Ulm and Next Generation Team Paris confirmed.

The ANGT finals will take place in Berlin with the four aforementioned teams being given an automatic berth to the event.
