U18 Premier League: Top performers from 20th April 2024

A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League this week. Manchester United were crowned northern champions with a 2-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday night. Meanwhile, in the south, Chelsea are still top of the table but dropped points against rivals Fulham allowing West Ham United to cut the gap to just two points. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Sam Amo-Ameyaw, Southampton

Sam Amo-Ameyaw scored a hat-trick and provided an assist as Southampton thrashed Reading 9-0. The England U18 international opened the scoring after 25 minutes and set up Jay Robinson 10 minutes later to net the Saints third. He had to wait until the 60th minute to bag his second goal and his side’s sixth. He completed his treble in the 73rd minute when he netted Southampton’s eighth. This was the forward’s first appearance of the season for the U18s, he has been spending the bulk of his time with U21s and has made seven first team appearances this season!

Donnell McNeilly, Chelsea

Donnell McNeilly netted a brace in Chelsea’s 3-3 draw with Fulham. The forward put the Blues 2-1 in front just before the hour mark and restored their goal advantage 20 minutes later with his second of the game. The 18-year-old has now scored an incredible 19 goals in 17 league games this season which sees him second in the U18 Premier League South goal charts. He also has four goals in eight matches in Premier League 2.

Josh McDonald, Leeds United

Josh McDonald grabbed a goal and two assists in Leeds United’s 4-2 victory away at Blackburn Rovers. The Scotland U17 international assisted Devon Brockie’s equalising goal in the 50th minute before sending Leeds 3-2 in front himself three minutes later. He then set up Harvey Vincent to make sure of the points. The winger is enjoying his debut season at U18 level with seven goals and five assists in the U18 Premier League.

Kieran Morrison, Liverpool

Kieran Morrison bagged both goals to earn Liverpool a 2-1 win against Sunderland. The Northern Ireland U19 international equalised two minutes into the second half before finding the net again with 10 minutes to go to snatch the three points for the Reds. The midfielder now has 11 goals and four assists in 19 league appearances this campaign.
