U18 Premier League: Top performers from 27th April 2024

A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League this week. Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the table to five points in the south with a win in the first of their two games in hand over second-place West Ham United. Meanwhile, Wolverhampton Wanderers climbed up to third in the north with a victory over Liverpool. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Chido Obi-Martin, Arsenal

Chido Obi-Martin bagged an unbelievable seven goals in Arsenal’s 9-0 victory against Norwich City. The Denmark U17 international opened the scoring after a minute before doubling his tally in the 14th minute with his hat-trick three minutes later. He had a fourth just before the half-hour mark and netted a fifth just before half time. The forward got his sixth in the 54th minute before completing his haul 10 minutes later. The 16-year-old has now scored a ridiculous 28 goals in 16 league matches in what is his first full season at U18 level.

Damola Ajayi, Tottenham Hotspur

Damola Ajayi scored a first half hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur beat West Bromwich Albion 5-3. The 18-year-old opened the scoring in the sixth minute before tucking home from the spot for his second and Spurs’ third on the half-hour mark. He completed his treble five minutes later to put Tottenham well in control. The forward’s hat-trick moves him up to double figures in the U18 Premier League this season.

Matthew Warhurst, Manchester City

Matthew Warhurst scored a hat-trick as Manchester City came from behind to win 4-1 away at Leeds. The England U17 international equalised for City three minutes into the second half before putting them in front in the 62nd minute. Seven minutes later he bagged his treble and the Citizen’s fourth. The forward’s haul takes him to 18 goals in 18 league matches, extending his lead at the top of the U18 Premier League North goal charts to five.

Aaron Chung, Sunderland

Aaron Chung netted twice as bottom-of-the-table Sunderland earned a shock 3-1 victory away at champions Manchester United. The midfielder equalised after three minutes which saw the two sides level at half time. He then put the Black Cats in front 10 minutes into the second half. Chung is enjoying his breakthrough season at U18 level making 15 appearances and grabbing two goals and an assist this campaign.
