A full weekend of fixtures took place in the U18 Premier League this week. Chelsea missed the chance to be crowned southern champions as they suffered defeat but they remain five points clear at the top with two games remaining. Meanwhile in the north, Manchester United, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United all played their final fixture of the season. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Charlie Lennon, Middlesbrough

Charlie Lennon scored a hat-trick in Middlesbrough’s 4-2 victory against Sunderland. The England U17 international put Boro two to the good in the 22nd minute before restoring their two-goal advantage after 68 minutes. He completed his treble with 10 minutes to go to make sure of the points for his side. The winger has eight goals and three assists in the U18 Premier League this season and recently made his senior debut, coming off the bench in Boro’s 4-1 win away at Cardiff City.

Eric Hamelberg, Middlesbrough

Eric Hamelberg provided three assists in Middlesbrough’s victory against their North East rivals. The midfielder set up Lennon’s first before combining with the winger again for his second goal. He then provided the assist for Lennon’s hat-trick to secure a treble of assists for himself. Hamelberg has made an impact in his debut season at U18 level with six league assists.

Alex Roberts, Norwich City

Alex Roberts bagged both goals as Norwich City earned a shock 2-1 win away at Chelsea. The Wales U17 international opened the scoring shortly before half time before snatching a fantastic win for the Canaries with five minutes to go. The forward has improved his goal tally from last season and has broken into U21 setup this season where he has one goal in his three appearances.

Joseph Barough, Reading

Joseph Barough netted a brace as Reading won 3-2 away at West Bromwich Albion. The forward opened the scoring in the fifth minute before doubling the Royals’ lead 20 minutes later. Barough is enjoying his breakthrough season at the U18 level and his haul moves him up to double figures in the U18 Premier League goal charts. He also made his U21 debut in March with two substitute appearances.
