U18 Premier League: Top performers from 11th May 2024

The final round of fixtures in the 2023/24 U18 Premier League took place this week. Chelsea were crowned southern champions with a 2-1 win against Southampton last Tuesday. They will now face off against northern champions Manchester United in the grand final at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, bringing a fantastic U18 Premier League season to a close. Here are the standout stars from another thrilling week of academy football.

Sahil Bashir, Brighton & Hove Albion

Sahil Bashir netted a 14-minute hat-trick as Brighton & Hove Albion thrashed Norwich City 6-2. The 18-year-old opened the scoring in the 13th minute before doubling his and the Seagulls’ tally five minutes later. He scored his third and Brighton’s fifth in the 27th minute as they cruised to a 5-1 lead at the break. The winger finishes the season with seven goals and two assists.

Ronnie Gorman, Brighton & Hove Albion

Ronnie Gorman grabbed three assists in Brighton’s dominant victory. The centre midfielder set up Bashir’s second and third goals before providing the assist for Layth Gulzar to wrap up the win late on with the Seagulls’ sixth. The 17-year-old has scored six goals and provided five assists this season as well as making his debut at U21 level earlier in the campaign.

Chido Obi-Martin, Arsenal

Chido Obi-Martin’s unbelievable season ended with a hat-trick in Arsenal’s 5-2 win against Chelsea. The Denmark U17 international opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 15 minutes but he had to wait a while for his second which came in the 85th minute. He scored his second penalty of the game in the 12th minute of stoppage time to complete his treble. The striker ends the season with an absolutely insane 32 goals in 18 league matches.

Justin Oguntolu, Derby County

Justin Oguntolu scored a hat-trick as Derby County thrashed Liverpool 5-1. The forward doubled the Rams’ lead in the 37th minute before doubling his tally in first-half stoppage time and he then completed his treble in the 75th minute. Oguntolu ends his breakthrough season at U18 level as Derby’s top scorer with 10 league goals to his name.

Conor Brown, Nottingham Forest

Conor Brown grabbed two goals and an assist to earn Nottingham Forest a 3-2 win against Everton. The 18-year-old opened the scoring in the first half before Everton flipped the game. Brown scored his second to equalise in the 86th minute before setting up Theo Flanagan’s stoppage-time winner. The forward finishes as the second top scorer in the U18 Premier League North with 15 goals. He has also provided five assists.

Freddie Anderson, Stoke City

Freddie Anderson provided three assists in Stoke City’s 4-2 victory against Sunderland. The 17-year-old set up Darius Lipsiuc’s equalising goal in the first half. He then assisted Josh Maskell twice in 20 minutes to put the Potters in front. The centre back has enjoyed his debut season at U18 level and has also made nine appearances in Premier League 2.
