England U17s began their group campaign of the 2024 UEFA U17 European Championships with a 4 – 0 victory over last year’s runners-up France U17s in Group D.

Mikey Moore opened the scoring for Greg Lincoln’s side in the 2nd minute. Leo Shahar delivered a cross, and Mikey Moore headed home to give his side the early lead.

England U17s doubled their lead in the 34th minute as Ethan Nwaneri went on a fantastic run from the right-hand side through the French opponents. However, his shot was blocked, but it fell into the feet of Baylee Dipepa, who had the composure to finish past Mathys Niflore.

Mikey Moore got his brace and England’s third with a brilliant individual goal in the 39th minute before Ethan Nwaneri sealed the win for England six minutes into the second half with a beautiful curling shot outside the opposition’s box.

“It’s a good start! It’s the perfect way to start the tournament, we’ll all delighted. It’s good to score two goals as well, a perfect start. It took a few of the nerves away, scoring early, it sets you up for the game.”
