Tyrique George has signed a new contract with Chelsea until 2027, with a further one-year option, following significant progress throughout the 2023-24 season.

Capable of playing on either wing and in the ‘number 10’ role, the 18-year-old has risen through the ranks at Cobham since joining the club as an under-8.

George made his under-18s debut at the beginning of the 2021-22 season while still a schoolboy, coming on as a late substitute in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory against Birmingham City. The following season, he established himself as a key starter with 22 appearances under Ed Brand. In the 2023-24 season, he appeared 21 times under the tutelage of Hassan Sulaiman.

George ended the 2023-24 U18 Premier League season with nine goals and scored 12 in all competitions. He played a significant role as Chelsea finished the campaign as U18 Premier League South champions, earning them the right to compete for the U18 National title against U18 Premier League North champions Manchester United. Although he was one of the bright sparks on the night and his cross set up Josh Acheampong for Chelsea’s equaliser in the 47th minute, they fell short, losing 2-1 to Adam Lawrence’s side.

He also made his U21 Premier League debut in August, coming on as a substitute in Chelsea’s 3-2 away defeat to Norwich City. He made 13 appearances for Mark Robinson’s side and ended his debut season for the Chelsea U21s with three goals.

The 18-year-old trained regularly with the first team during the second half of the season and was named on the substitutes’ bench three times against Everton, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur.

“I am extremely happy to extend my stay at Chelsea,” said George after committing his future to the Blues.

I started my journey at the club from a young age, so to be able to continue my story and grow in this environment means a lot.

It has always been a dream to play for Chelsea. It is a blessing to extend my stay and to continue playing for the club that means so much to me. I am excited to see what my future holds at this club and to make my mark.”

George expressed his delight in signing his new deal at the club, as he mentioned on the Chelsea Football Club website
