Joe Gibbard has signed his first professional contract with Crystal Palace.

The 18-year-old midfielder, who has been influential for Rob Quinn’s Crystal Palace Under-18s side, joined the club’s Under-10s almost ten years ago and has gradually developed throughout the age groups.

He was one of 13 academy players who earned a scholarship at the beginning of the 2022-23 Under-18s football season. In his first season with the U18s, he featured 17 times and scored three goals.

However, Gibbard missed nearly the first three months of the 2023-24 season due to injury. After a lengthy recovery, he made his comeback in Crystal Palace’s 5-4 victory over London rivals Fulham in the U18s Premier League Cup. He made 20 appearances in all competitions for Rob Quinn’s side, including a standout performance against Southampton in April, where he scored a brace to help Crystal Palace secure a 3-0 victory. Despite his early-season injury, he still heavily contributed, helping his side finish 6th in U18s Premier League South and ending the season with 11 goals and assists.

The 2023-24 campaign was also promising for the young Irish midfielder as he debuted for Crystal Palace U21s in April against Fulham in the U21s Premier League Cup. He made five appearances overall for the U21s side and hopes to build on those appearances ahead of the upcoming season.

Upon signing his first professional deal, Gibbard said on the Crystal Palace website: “It’s a very nice feeling, I’ve worked very hard for it and it’s just a dream come true.”
